Job Summary

The Department of Literature and Languages at University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position to teach the beginning and intermediate French online or in-person beginning in Fall 2024. UT Tyler offers 12 credit hours of Intensive French for students to complete the beginning and intermediate French within an academic year. The appointment is made on the semester-by-semester basis. Salary is commensurate with education, background, and experience.

Essential Functions

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching 6-credit hours of Beginning French course in the fall semester and 6 credit hours of Intermediate French course in the spring semester.
  • Regular and/or daily communication with students, the foreign language coordinator, and the department chair is required.
  • Attending departmental meetings is optional.

 

Required Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in French language or a related field with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in French language.
  • Near-native fluency in French and English

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in college teaching.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
