The Department of Molecular Biology (DBM) of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) invites applications for a full-time faculty position to join its multi-disciplinary research and teaching department.
Area of Research :
Candidates with an internationally competitive scientific track-record and an innovative research program in molecular biology, biotechnology and/or synthetic biology of eucaryotic systems are invited to apply. Any of the subdisciplines thereof is eligible, including but not limited to: molecular genetics and genomics, RNA biology, protein science and structural biology, genetic and metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, and computational or systems biology.
The candidate will integrate into the Department of Molecular Biology within the Brussels South Charleroi Biopark, a highly dynamic environment dedicated to life sciences; https://biopark.be/en. The BioPark harbors three academic research institutes and offers state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructures and a thriving network of over 100 life science companies. Within this environment, the candidate will be able to collaborate across disciplines – working with experts in nucleic acid biology, microbiology, immunology, virology, parasitology as well cell and developmental biology.
Educational and Scientific Goals :
The applicant shall show strong motivation and abilities with respect to teaching and mentoring. (S)he will contribute to the teaching activities in a wide range of aspects of modern biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology in the Bachelor and Master programs by ensuring both basic and specialty courses. Mentoring of undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral researchers is also expected. For candidates not fluent in French, a temporary period of learning French and teaching in English may be granted for 3 years, after which (s)he is expected to be able to teach in French.
The candidate is expected to lead a competitive research program and secure its funding through external grants (European and regional funds, e.g. ERC, Wel-RI, FNRS, etc…).
