The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, invites applications for a full-time, probationary (tenure-track) faculty position in Cancer Immunology and Therapeutics. The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications. Cross-appointments with other departments at Western may be arranged.

Candidates must hold a PhD in immunology, cellular/molecular biology, computational biology, or a closely related discipline, completed by the time of appointment, along with a minimum of two years of post-doctoral research experience in a relevant field. Candidates should have a strong record of research productivity demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and demonstrated potential to secure external funding; the ability to secure funding through philanthropy is an asset. The candidate’s research should focus on innovative areas in cancer immunology and immunotherapy, such as tumor microenvironment interactions, development of novel immunotherapeutics, immune checkpoint mechanisms, and omics approaches relevant to cancer immunology. A commitment to promoting and contributing to both basic and translational research initiatives is essential.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including contributing to medical education programs. The ability to contribute to the training and/or teaching of clinical residents or fellows interested in immuno-oncology research will be considered an asset. A commitment to excellence in teaching and mentorship is expected. Experience with curriculum development and innovative teaching methods will be considered an asset.

The candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams of clinicians and scientists. The successful candidate will be encouraged to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations and contribute to our vibrant academic community. Engagement in service activities, including participation on committees in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is expected.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has a long-established history and expertise in disease genetics, epigenetics, cancer, stem cell biology, and medical bioinformatics. There are strong links to clinical research and education at London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Care London, and the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre (formerly London Regional Cancer Program).

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers undergraduate courses and training to medical students, dental students, and undergraduate students in basic medical science, science and health sciences. Modules in Pathology, Medical Bioinformatics, and One Health are offered through the Basic Medical Sciences Undergraduate Education program. At the graduate level, we offer a research-based MSc and PhD program in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (including One Health), a MCISc Pathologists’ Assistant program and a Graduate Diploma in Pathology.

The university campus is in London, with a metropolitan census of approximately 530,000, located between Toronto and Detroit.
