As the only university directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education in Wuxi, Jiangnan University is situated at the perfect place and time. In the 2022 “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects” of ShanghaiRanking, 15 disciplines of the university were selected. Our discipline “ Food Science and Technology” was ranked first in the world for four consecutive years. In the global database of Essential Science Indicators (ESI), 10 disciplines including Biology and Biochemistry Materials Science, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Environment and Ecology, fall within the top 1% globally, while Clinical Medicine sits within the top 0.34%. Meanwhile, the Wuxi School of Medicine is ranked 41st in the ranking of the Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) of China’s medical colleges in 2023.

 

 

2. Wuxi School of Medicine: the “New Force” of Jiangnan University

School History: Wuxi School of Medicine was established in 2012 through a collaboration between the Wuxi Municipal Government and Jiangnan University. It has developed rapidly during the 12th and 13th Five-Year Plans. During the 14th Five-Year Plan, the high-quality development blueprint of the medicine school has been incorporated into Jiangnan University’s “Endeavour Plan.”

 

Talent Cultivation: The school has a three-tiered talent cultivation system covering undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels. It offers two undergraduate programs: Clinical Medicine (a national first-class undergraduate program) and Nursing (a provincial first-class undergraduate program in Jiangsu). It also has five master’s programs in Clinical Medicine, Basic Medicine, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Pharmacology, and specialized master’s programs in Clinical Medicine and Nursing. Additionally, it offers doctoral programs in Foodborne Chronic Diseases, as well as Biotechnology and Engineering.

 

Faculty Team: The School of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals currently have 622 full-time faculty members, including 129 professors, 34 doctoral advisors, and 298 master’s advisors. The faculty team includes 12 individuals with “national-level talent” titles and “national-level honors”, one provincial-level innovation team, and nearly 180 participants in provincial talent projects.

 

Scientific and Educational Platforms: The school has four teaching departments: Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health and Preventive Medicine. It hosts three ministry-level research innovation centers focusing on wound healing technology, intelligent elderly care technology, and fundamental research on gut microbiota and chronic disease medicine. The school has also been approved to establish a national high-level Biosafety Level 3 laboratory and houses a national drug clinical trial institution. The school’s research platforms are available 24/7 to assist in optimizing experimental plans and achieving innovative and mutually beneficial outcomes.

 

Affiliated Hospitals: The school has 6 tertiary grade A affiliated hospitals, including Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University, Jiangnan University Medical Center, Affiliated Women’s Hospital of Jiangnan University, Mental Health Center of Jiangnan University, Affiliated Children’s Hospital of Jiangnan University, and Affiliated Wuxi Fifth Hospital of Jiangnan University.

 

3. Wuxi – The Happiest Historical and Cultural City in China

As the cradleland of China’s Wu culture, Wuxi enjoys the reputation of the “Pearl of Taihu Lake”.
