Job Description

The Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering seeks a self-motivated and experienced professional to serve as one of two Graduate Program Coordinators. The successful candidate will be responsible for serving as a graduate advisor and coordinating graduate degree progress. The Graduate Program Coordinators will manage and process all departmental Graduate Research Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant contracts including tuition remissions. The Graduate Program Coordinators will manage the timetable for all graduate classes, coordinate admission decisions into the graduate program, and handle faculty requests for special study courses. The Graduate Program Coordinators will manage graduate school applicants in Slate, including
assigning faculty reviewers, collecting metrics and faculty feedback into concise spreadsheets, and managing offer letters and student responses. The Graduate Program Coordinators will work closely with the AOE Graduate Studies Assistant Department Head to assure all tasks are well-defined and completed in a timely fashion.

Required Qualifications

– Bachelor’s Degree in related field
– Must possess demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with students, parents, faculty, prospective students, counselors, and university personnel to provide services for student recruitment and enrollment.
– Proactive and takes initiative on tasks and responsibilities
– Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues
– Position requires good general office skills; with hands-on experience utilizing Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, and/or related programs

Preferred Qualifications

– Experience working in student affairs or assisting students with graduation requirements
– Experience working with Virginia Tech graduate student records, admissions, applications and administrative policies
– Training and/or experience using Banner Student system, Banner HRIS system, working knowledge of HokieSpa, MS Word, MS Excel and Banner or similar software.
– Experience in Slate

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
