The Head of LX is responsible for all lighting equipment, including maintenance for the production, they will take part in the get-in taking responsibility for relights, and with the Head of Video will operate lighting and video for performances and will agree a rota to enable days off.

Job Title: Head Of LX

Responsible to: General Management, Company Manager & Production Managers

Start date: March/April 2025 – TBC

End date: Tuesday 5th August 2025

The Production

Life of Pi is a 5-time Olivier Award-winning play setting off on a four-month tour across mainland China, Macau & Tawain. The production has just come to the end of its first experience of international touring by travelling to Toronto, Abu Dhabi & Mumbai. The production has been praised for its on-stage diversity, skilled puppetry work and complex use of Video and Automation. The play tells the story of a teenager marooned on a lifeboat with a variety of animals (including a Bengal tiger). It is adapted from Yann Martel’s celebrated novel by Lolita Chakrabarti, with direction by Max Webster, Set and Costume Design by Tim Hatley and Puppet and Movement Direction by Finn Caldwell.

Purpose of Job

The Head of LX is responsible for all lighting equipment, including maintenance for the production. The Head of LX will take part in the get-in taking responsibility for relights. The Head of LX and the Head of Video will operate lighting and video for performances and will agree a rota to enable days off. Both individuals will take part in the get-out. The Head of LX will line manage the Deputy Head of LX & Lighting & Video Assistant ensuring they are in the position to fully confident to deputise & assist.

Specific Lighting Skills

– Experience using a Zactrack followspot system
– Experience relighting productions on tour (International touring preferable)
– Experience of equipment rigging, suspension and safety.
– Track record of working in theatre, music or live events.
