Background

The Movement Against Malnutrition is a new, highly ambitious effort with a single goal: to ensure that no child dies of hunger. We design and research groundbreaking innovations, deliver malnutrition services to millions of children and advocate for urgent action to end this global public health crisis of up to 2 million children a year dying of acute malnutrition. The Movement Against Malnutrition is a venture embedded within one of the largest humanitarian organizations but operating like a flexible start-up to spur a global movement with partners across government, the nonprofit sector, academia, and corporate world. Our ambition is no less than transforming a broken humanitarian system into a succeeding one where no child dies of hunger.

Marketing & Mobilization (M&M) is an award-winning international team that is tasked with building the IRC’s profile and brand, supporting the growth of private revenue from deeper donor engagement and partnerships, and influencing our target audiences. The team is responsible for IRC’s brand, communications, creative and content and digital engagement efforts.

JOB OVERVIEW:

As the Head of Marketing & Mobilization for the Movement Against Malnutrition, you are this new venture’s Chief Marketing & Mobilization Officer and the primary leader of all of IRC’s malnutrition marketing work across all markets. As a member of the leadership teams of both the Movement Against Malnutrition and IRC’s Marketing & Mobilization Department, you will run a cross-functional team of marketers, inspiring the team to collaborate closely with programmatic, fundraising, advocacy, and technical partners internally and externally to build the Movement’s profile, support revenue growth, and influence target audiences. You will develop and supervise the execution of the Movement’s forward-looking and creative marketing & mobilization strategy, challenging the Movement to work with unexpected partners and drive for transformational change on behalf of children. You will be responsible for all of the Movement Against Malnutrition’s creative content, brand, communications, creative content, experiential marketing, talent, and digital engagement. You will lead a service function to fundraisers, corporate partnership teams, but also be a leader in the space for award-winning campaigns and more.

This position requires you to wear both strategic and operational hats. You will drive innovative marketing strategies and creative storytelling to raise awareness, influence key stakeholders, and support revenue growth. You will also supervise project management, ensuring the delivery of content development, campaign management, and digital supporter engagement across multiple markets.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Development & Collaboration

• Develop the global marketing strategy for the Movement Against Malnutrition, ensuring alignment and integration with IRC’s broader objectives.

• Operate cross-functionally in partnership with the core leadership team of the Movement and the Marketing & Mobilization leadership team to seek new opportunities to expand reach.

• Serve as a strategic advisor on marketing, communications, and brand efforts, contributing fresh ideas to spur ground-breaking change for child malnutrition.

• Collaborate closely with internal colleagues, including advocacy, programmatic, fundraising, and technical teams, to expand the team’s reach and influence.

• Work with team leaders to drive brand development, earned media, content creation, and digital engagement, ensuring high-impact campaigns across social media, web, and other platforms.

Campaign Management

• Lead Movement content development efforts, across digital, earned media, and storytelling platforms.

• Act as a diligent project manager, ensuring all aspects of campaigns are completed time and within scope.

• Supervise content development teams, providing editorial guidance, assigning tasks, and approving final results.

• Lead integrated campaign strategies across digital, essential communications, and creative, ensuring smooth cross-functional teamwork.

• Identify, flag and fix any challenges in campaign planning or execution, ensuring timely results and quality work

• Monitor campaign results using analytics to optimize performance, iterating new tactics for engagement and revenue growth.

Operational Execution

• Work with the Marketing and Analytics teams to monitor results and adjust approaches as needed.

• Provide strategic support for communication planning, developing frameworks that enable continual creative innovation.

• Ensure timely reporting of metrics to inform growth strategies and decision-making.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience: 8-12+ years in marketing, communications, or public relations with experience in global health or humanitarian sectors. Shown success in leading teams, developing brand strategies, and launching integrated campaigns.

• Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop forward-looking marketing strategies that identify unmet needs and build impactful solutions.

• Project Management: Strong skills in running content development, budgets, and client relations. Experience in communication agencies or humanitarian environments is highly desirable.

• Leadership: Consistent track record to lead cross-functional teams and cultivate collaborative environments.

• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to craft compelling long- and short-form content that inspires change on issues

• Cultural Awareness: Strong understanding of global cultural contexts and the humanitarian sector. Familiarity with international fundraising and communications markets is a plus.

• Adaptability: Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, with resilience and flexibility to navigate challenges in rapid growth contexts.
This role is ideal for a leader who is equally comfortable in high-level strategy development and hands-on project management, with a passion for purposeful work that makes a global impact

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This role will need to accommodate multiple time zones given our global IRC community and will be in a hybrid environment with the option of remote work a few days a week. Position will also require ad hoc travel for events such as retreats, workshops etc.

Compensation:

Posted pay ranges apply to US and UK-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

US Benefits:

The IRC offers a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits. All US employees are eligible for sick time, a 403b retirement savings plans: up to 4.5% immediately vested matching contribution, plus an 3-7% additional IRC contribution, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support in times of crisis and mental health struggles.

In addition, full-time employees are eligible for 10 US paid holidays, 20-25 paid time off days, disability & life insurance, medical, dental, and vision insurance (employee contribution starting at $135, $7, and $5 per month respectively) and FSA for healthcare, childcare, and commuter costs. Part-time employees are eligible for a proportionate amount of paid time off. These additional benefits apply to employees who work at least 6 months within a 12 month time period.
