Position Information Georges River College (GRC), Hurstville Campus is a vibrant educational setting focused on innovatively meeting the learning needs of students in Years 7-10 inclusive. It is focused on delivering a quality education to all students and strives for excellence in teaching and learning. With an enrolment of 230 students and over 85% from non-English speaking background, GRC Hurstville Campus works collaboratively with other campuses making up GRC: Penshurst, Peakhurst and Oatley Senior Campuses. From 2025, GRC Hurstville Campus will transition to a coeducational setting.

GRC Hurstville Boys Campus is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) School, ensuring the values of respect, responsibility and excellence underpin all school activities. A broad range of co-curricular programs integrate with classroom learning to strengthen student engagement in the classroom and beyond. The school proudly differentiates the curriculum to best meet the educational needs of all students including high potential and gifted students and those with diverse learning needs. Professional learning is at the centre of continually strengthening teacher practice and is evident across the campus.

The Support Unit at Hurstville Boys Campus includes three classes for students identified as having Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well an AU/IO class.

Specific Selection Criteria 

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

  • Demonstrated success in teaching English (7 -12) with the ability to inspire the potential of all students.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively and effectively lead staff through curriculum reform to successfully embed high-quality teaching, learning and assessment practices resulting in improved student outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a diverse team, demonstrating capacity to collaboratively engage and motivate teachers to improve their practice and professional knowledge, and build a supportive culture of excellence within the team.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven capacity to dynamically work as a productive member of the executive team to lead, manage, and analyse data to implement whole-school improvement processes that support the school’s strategic directions.

General Selection Criteria 

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policy

Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
