Position Information Marrickville High School is an inclusive and proud comprehensive public high school with a growing enrolment of over 700 students that includes students in our five class Support Unit, and those students enrolled in our Intensive English Centre (IEC), which provides specialist English language development for recently arrived non-English speaking students. The student population has been steadily increasing over the last five years and is expected to continue to grow in coming years. 57% of students enrolled at the school are from language backgrounds other than English. 19 students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Specific Selection Criteria 

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. demonstrated ability to build capacity and lead staff, with diverse teaching experience, across the range of English courses from Stage 4 through to Stage 6 Extension 2. 

2. Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to effectively lead, the implementation of the new English curriculum. 

3. Demonstrated capacity to lead staff in exemplary evidence-based pedagogy to foster student engagement and promote quality learning experiences. 

4. Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively and creatively as a member of the Executive team to sustain the school’s strategic vision and whole school priorities.

General Selection Criteria 

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policy

Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
