JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Services and within the area of his/her
professional expertise, the Health Aide cares for student illnesses and/or injuries in a safe and efficient
manner, as well as promotes and encourages healthy habits and practices. The Health Aide works directly
with parents, students, and medical professionals for the control and prevention of diseases.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Provides necessary first aid or emergency care of illnesses or injuries to students and staff in
accordance with the school district’s policies and procedures, coordinating with emergency services
when necessary.
• Maintain individual student medical logs for the student files, documenting all visits to the clinic.
• Assists in the control of communicable diseases, according to the school district’s policies and
procedures.
• Administers medications to students as prescribed by the student’s physician.
• Performs vision and hearing screenings for students as required by state and district policies.
• Sets up and maintains first aid kits for teachers.
• Maintains medical supplies in the school clinic, including feminine hygiene products.
• Maintains accurate and confidential records for students and staff, including emergency information,
medication administration, and incident reports.
• Collaborates with building security and human resources to maintain records of staff injury/incident
reports.
• Notifies Administration immediately of serious incidents, significant health problems, and concerns of
suspected child abuse.
• Communicates effectively with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers regarding student health
needs and concerns.
• Prepares medication and first aid kits for administration during field trips and off-campus activities.
• Collects and maintains confidential student medical and emergency information, including accurate
and up-to-date lists of students with health conditions.
• Provides teaching staff with classroom signs indicating student or staff allergies in a classroom.
• Provides teaching staff with lists of students with allergies, asthma, or significant medical conditions.
• Arranges for and assists with medical-related training for staff, including CPR, First Aid, AED, Epi-
Pen, and other trainings required by state or district policies.
• Collaborates with Director of Student Services and Intervention Specialists on 504 plans, IEPs, or
medical plans for students with medical conditions (including asthma, allergies, or other conditions
that impact student performance or wellbeing).
• Educates students on health and wellness-related topics, including hygiene, nutrition, and physical
activity.
• Distributes health-related materials and resources to students, parents, and staff.
• Maintains a hygienic, safe, and welcoming clinic, following best practices in the prevention of
communicable diseases.
• Supports school-wide health initiatives and programs that promote a healthy school environment.
• Participates in additional training and professional development as designated by the Director of
Student Services, Superintendent, and the district.
• Participates in schoolwide teams and committees to promote holistic solutions to meeting student
needs
• Maintains high level of confidentiality, abiding by HIPAA & FERPA laws
• Actively seeks out professional development opportunities and continuous improvement, remaining
current in knowledge of best practices and research in area of practice
• Additional duties and support as required by teachers, school staff, Superintendent, and the Director of
Student Services, including but not limited to arrival, dismissal, front desk, and lunch duties.
