JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Office of Radiation Safety is hiring
two Health Physicists to join our team. These individuals will report
directly to the Associate Radiation Safety Officer. These Health
Physicists play a key role in support and implementation of procedures
and processes for the UW-Madison Radiation Safety Program. The Radiation
Safety Program establishes radiation safety standards to ensure the
health and safety of personnel who work with or who may be exposed to
radiation and that members of the general public are protected. This
position provides technical expertise and guidance on the safe use of
ionizing radiation, non-ionizing radiation, and radioactive materials in
research at UW-Madison. The Health Physicists integrate regulatory
requirements and best practices with results from field observations
into programmatic actions. They help ensure that radiation exposure to
staff members, members of the public, and the environment are As Low As
Reasonably Achievable. The Health Physicists are expected to regularly
communicate with other members of Environment, Health, and Safety staff
to support the creation of a safe work environment. This position will
have a broad range of responsibilities which may include audits or
inspections of labs in possession or use of radioactive
material/non-ionizing hazards/radiation generating devices,
identification/quantification/processing of radioactive waste, review
and assessment of novel research protocols using radioactive material,
assisting with complex decommissioning projects, radiological surveys,
and more depending on department needs as well as employee skills and
