POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Globe and Mail is seeking a health science reporter to join our newsroom.

This beat will focus on medical research and health science — including topics such as infectious diseases, cancer, aging and brain health, genetics, reproductive health, mental health and addictions, and other areas at the frontier of medical science.

The ideal candidate is a proactive and collaborative reporter, with an ability to translate complex science into engaging and accessible news stories.

The role will involve building and maintaining a national roster of expert sources, pitching, researching, reporting and writing breaking news, enterprise stories, interviews and exclusives.

Previous experience covering science or health is helpful, but we’d also love to hear from ambitious reporters looking for a new challenge and ready to take on a career-defining beat.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Report and write stories in a variety of formats

  • Generate original story ideas for multiple platforms

  • Identify trends ahead of the curve

  • Work with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to brainstorm story ideas as well as the best way to tell them

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five years previous reporting experience

  • Ability to read and interpret scientific studies for the Globe audience

  • Strong writing skills and ability to produce engaging, accurate, and credible stories

VACCINATION POLICY:
