Job Introduction

As a Healthcare Assistant you’ll join a team who are focused on exceeding the needs of patients within our Kestrel ward of Sittingbourne memorial hospital. You will support the delivery of care to a range of complex patients which will include holistically caring for patients’, undertaking personal care needs, observations, working with the MDT team to support rehabilitation, meeting the clinical need of patients with life limiting conditions, supporting nurses with discharge planning for patients. You will be based primarily on Kestrel ward.

Main Responsibility

Within this role, you will: 

  • Communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary team, medical, clinical nursing colleagues and staff from other support departments
  • Adopt an attitude of flexibility and positivity in order to be a team member.
  • Actively seeks ways to improve the quality of the service provided.
  • Recognizing when to refer to the trained nurse, to contribute to the assessment and care planning process by communicating any concerns you may have or that are expressed by a patient or carer to the registered nurse.
  • Keep and maintain contemporaneous records.
  • Assist in emergency situations if a patient becomes unwell or collapses.
  • Develop and maintain a competency folder.
  • Report changes in patients conditions to qualified nurses and ensure it is documented. Ensure all interventions are appropriately recorded and care plans are maintained to required standards.
  • Ability to organise and manage own time.
  • Ability to interpret written data.
  • Actively promote the health and wellbeing of patients attending the department.
  • Assist patients to mobile safely while in the department
  • Remove dressings and applying simple dressings when trained and competent.
  • Support patient’s nutritional needs.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a

Essential:

  • Good standard of basic secondary education.
  • Experience in dealing with the general public within a health care setting.
  • Effective communication skill

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 11 in Care
  • Previous experience in health care setting

You will also need to be confident using IT systems and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel.
