Manages the overall planning, development, and processing of the department’s healthcare data analysis activities. Collaborates with physician leaders and clinicians to lead healthcare data analysis, including the development and maintenance of healthcare data benchmarks, analysis, and reporting. Recommends healthcare analytics best practices to support the ongoing growth and operations of the department. Provides strategic support to all areas of the department by encouraging the use and interpretation of healthcare quality data.
The Healthcare Data Analysis Manager will be responsible for:
- Managing a team of Healthcare Data Analysts to ensure timely delivery, accuracy, and consistency of healthcare data reports in support of the division’s goals.
- Recruiting, hiring, managing, motivating, and developing assigned staff.
- Conducting performance reviews and recommending promotions, merit raises, and disciplinary action.
- Planning and overseeing the administration of the department’s healthcare analytics activities.
- Ensuring efficacy of healthcare benchmarks across the department.
- Researching, designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining reporting and analytical facilities in the context of the hospital’s clinical and/or financial systems.
- Collaborating with clinical and administrative staff to ensure that reports are timely, accurate, meaningful, and interpretable.
- Ensuring that analyses and reports provide detailed, specific data regarding performance of individuals, teams, programs, divisions, and the department as a whole.
- Generating reports from internal and external sources, including benchmarking databases (e.g. PHIS, PACT, specialty-specific registries)
- Utilizing standard statistical packages (e.g., SAS, R, Stata, SPSS) and other project-specific software.
- Ensuring that code is accurate, efficient, well-commented, and organized.
- Providing analyses and reports of performance indicators, providing trended data using statistical process control or other appropriate epidemiological techniques.
- Defining work requirements and setting goals for the team; designing and implementing systems to catalog, organize and manage work requests; developing data documentation systems and tools.
To qualify you must have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health care administration, mathematics, computer science is required
- Five years’ experience or M.S. degree and 3 years of related experience is required
- Five years using Data Analytics tools; 2 years in a clinical setting is preferred
- Working knowledge of claims data and risk arrangement methodology is preferred
- Technical awareness of coding systems, data types, and data structures used to store clinical, demographic, and financial data in healthcare databases is preferred. Knowledge of basic relational database concepts
- Knowledge of clinical concepts, terminology, and workflow – preferably as they apply to pediatrics
- One year of experience in a pediatric healthcare setting is preferred
- Working knowledge of the value and use of standardized definitions, calculations, naming, and data storage conventions when working with tools to access data and conduct and maintain analyses and reports
- Excellent communication skills, including communication of issues and results, as well as an ability to understand and explain complex concepts. Ability to work collaboratively in a matrixed organization
