Why does the job exist?

The Long-Term Care Healthcare Surveyor will:

  • Perform surveys and investigations of Nursing Homes and Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IIDs) facilities to determine their level of compliance with State and Federal regulations.

How does it get done?

The Long-Term Care Healthcare Surveyor is responsible for:

  • Surveying Long – Term Care Healthcare Facilities;
  • Interviewing residents/clients and staff of healthcare facilities;
  • Evaluating the facility environment to ensure it meets safety and infection control standards;
  • Reviewing records;
  • Ensuring resident/client rights;
  • Ensuring quality of care and quality of life meet regulation standards.

  • Long-Term Care healthcare providers;
  • New Mexico residents receiving healthcare services.

Minimum Qualification

Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing, Architecture, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Rehabilitation, and/or Criminal Justice and two (2) years directly related experience in community based healthcare services and case management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.

Must Possess and maintain a current Defensive driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting and in long term care facilities and ICF/IID with phone and extensive computer usage. Some sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending reaching and lifting up to twenty (20) pounds may be required. Extensive in-state with frequent overnight stays averaging one week at a time, is required. Occasional out-of-state travel is required. Some out-of-pocket expense with reimbursement are required
