Heritage Engagement Coordinator, A Common Treasury

The PCC of Cleeton St Mary are seeking to contract an experience and suitably qualified Heritage Engagement Coordinator to support the delivery of our NHLF funded our “A Common Treasury” Project.

Cleeton St Mary church was built in 1874 for the local community in Shropshire, rural and remote but with a unique industrial history stretching back 4000 years. The grade II listed, HAR, building has been leaking water through the roof and it requires complete replacement. The project running along side the building work will, in conjunction with the building work, restore the church to pride of place at the centre of village life, broadening its range of use and attracting greater numbers of visitors.
We are looking for someone with a passion for heritage in its broadest sense to deliver our project, A Common Treasury, on time and on budget. This is a key role in the project helping to foster a stronger sense of place and identity amongst the community and pride on lining in Cleeton St Mary. You will be working with the public and with artists, facilitating them in their work with the community.
You will be required to create interpretation material arising out of the project and installing it in various sites around the village. The work in the church needs to be sensitive both to the Gothic Revival Interior and the fact that the building is a place of worship.
A Common Treasury is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players we will be able to renew the roof of Cleeton St Mary Church so that it can be fully used again by both locals and visitors. A Common Treasury will explore and record the hidden histories of Cleeton and the surrounding common land, the way of life and the use of natural resources by those commoners. The project will create opportunities to source materials and learn traditional skills to work them, engaging creatively to value our heritage and environment.
