Job Description Summary 

The Part-time Adjunct Instructor, Dental Assisting responsible for clinical instruction to students in their clinical courses. Able to help ensure the dental clinic runs efficiently as well as effectively. The instructor will help in preparing students for entry level work as a DAII in the dental office; and will tutor and teach in labs/clinics as needed and available.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting Program and certification as a DAII-Expanded Functions Dental Assistant. **Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • One year or more of dental assisting experience in a dental office/clinic.
  • DANB-certified CDA
  • Knowledge of dental terminology.
  • Knowledge of dental equipment and maintenance.
  • Ability to read dental radiographs and dental charting.
  • Understands and is committed to the unique nature and role of the College.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation and collaboration apps and software.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of dental computer software.
  • AA, AAS or BS degree preferred but not required

Essential DutiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by Program Coordinator.

  • Work as a part-time faculty member in labs/clinics.
  • Tutor students in various dental skills such as radiology, instrumentation, or dental materials laboratory as needed and available.
  • Work with main course instructor to tutor students with clinical skills as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ professionalism during clinic and address any concerns/issues with proper faculty.
  • Collaborate with all instructors to train students on dental procedures and processes.
  • Monitor and strengthen students’ communications with patients and others.
  • Maintain all required documentation as described in Dental accreditation standards.
  • Define problems, collect data, prove facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Understand the processes of the front desk and assist in patient scheduling
  • Know how to use all clinical equipment, including radiology equipment. Be able to teach students how to use equipment and know and teach equipment maintenance.
  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as designated by the program coordinator.
  • Assume responsibility for keeping all required College records including attendance and grade reports. Be willing to learn and understand Blackboard
  • Make recommendations to Program Coordinator for supplies, equipment, and equipment repairs.
  • Construct, administer, and grade examinations and skill assessments as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for being familiar with and adhering to all policies of the College.

  • Read written communications and analyze and interpret both verbal and written communications.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Perform basic mathematical operations in problem solving.
  • Apply mathematical concepts such as exponent and permutation to such tasks as test reliability, frequency distribution, sampling theory and factor analysis.

  • Define problems, collect data, prove facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
