JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor in MIS/SCM

Penn State Altoona is seeking an instructor or assistant teaching professor in Management Information Systems/Supply Chain Management to begin as early as July 2025.

The primary responsibilities may include teaching a range of in-resident undergraduate courses focusing on management information systems/data analytics (MIS 345, MIS 431, MIS 301, MIS 404) and business statistic courses (SCM 200). This full-time position carries a 12-credit load per semester.

This is a limited-term, 1-year (36 weeks) position with excellent possibility of reappointment. The hire must regularly be on campus to meet students’ needs face-to-face and engage in the campus face-to-face.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have earned a master’s degree or higher in Management Information Systems or related business field ideally from an AACSB-accredited business program. The ideal candidate should have a proven record of quality instruction in management information systems/data analytics, business statistics courses, or relevant business experience as well as a commitment to academic service.

Candidate should also be qualified to teach undergraduate courses in Management Information Systems (business data analytics) and Supply Chain Management (business statistics).

In addition to the required courses of Business Statistics and Business Analytics, the position ideally will expand to cover some of the following topics:

• Use of databases, basic data mining tools, social networking software, and advanced level of spreadsheet management for analysis of large amounts of data.
• Application of visualization techniques, data preparation, dimension reduction, modeling techniques, and applications in different domain areas. Business Data Management will enable students to use various database designs to acquire the information needed to make effective business decisions.
• Creation and implementation of relational database in MySQL with the ability to write SQL statements to obtain information from a database and design a database system including an ER Model, and implement the design in an enterprise database application such as MySQL.
• Knowledge of Business Intelligence (BI), why it is important, and how various BI technologies can be used to obtain actionable information needed to make business decisions.
• Demonstration of leading BI tools such as Crystal Reports, Tableau, SQL Server Services, Qlik Sense, and Power BI.
• Effectively use a wide range of data sources, create data models and data warehouse solutions, perform custom and embedded analytics, generate insightful visualizations and reports, and produce interactive dashboards.
• Explain and demonstrate that Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) business processes such as sales logistics, production/material management, procurement, and human resources are supported in an ERP software package.
• Understanding of NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Graph databases, XML native databases, NewSQL databases and the advantages and disadvantages of these databases.

Additional academic services include supporting the enhancement and the visibility of the business and accounting programs, as well as advising students in the business and accounting degree programs.
