The Intern will provide operational, cooridnation and administrative support to the Department of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Middle East-DECM sub-Regions. S/he will have the opportunity to learn and expand her/his experiences by providing assistance in the Programming, Readiness and the management of the GCFs project portfolio. The Intern will report to the Sub Regional Lead– Middle East and will also work closely with other relevant DECM staff and consultants.
Under the overall guidance of the Sub Regional Lead, Middle East-ME within the Department of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Middle East (DECM), the Intern is expected to:
- Provide analytical support to DECM Sub-Regions in the assessment of GCF Project Activities (including both Funding Proposals and Readiness Grants)
- Provide support to the Sub-Region in managing Readiness Grants and Funding Proposals, including assisting in change, and/or adaptive management requests including contract amendments and restructurings, no cost extensions, initial review of project reports and disbursements/reflows.
- Assists in administrative tasks (i.e. organizing meetings, preparing minutes and briefs for internal and external meetings) and the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, including presentations for Events/ Meetings and other programming needs, as appropriate.
- Support the strengthening of dialogues, engagements, and other relationship management activities with National Designated Authorities (NDAs) and Direct Access Entities (DAEs) in the DECM region.
- Support the ME office in the gathering and analysis of additional country data, as required.
- Conduct analytical work, on the status of the programmatic and financial support offered to countries in the region, as required.
- Support learning and documentation activities, and the development of one knowledge within the DECM region.
- Support the the development of written briefs, as requested, in preparation of key country and entity engagements including regional programming events.
- Conduct analytical work, on the status of the GCF Project pipeline, as required.
Requirements and qualifications :
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s or PhD program in public policy, sustainable development, climate change, development economics or related fields;
- Knowledge and experience with working with developing country governments, development partners including the UN, IFIs, and/or MDBs is an advantage;
- Good understanding and experience in operations of international organization is an added advantage;
- Proficiency in using standard software programs: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;
- Excellent writing and presentation skills;
- Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language or Pacific Island language is an advantage.
