Job Summary
Job Description
The Inclusive Museums programme aims to increase museum leaders’ knowledge and confidence in relation to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the Midlands museum sector.
The successful applicant will support a small cohort of six museums to develop and implement Equity Action Plans (EAPs) through cohort training, peer networking and 1:1 mentoring.
The programme will be delivered from January 2025-March 2026, with development work commencing in late 2024.
The programme will have the following outcomes:
Museum leaders will:
Increase knowledge and understanding of EDI, particularly in relation to
organisational culture and museum practice
Understand how data can be used to drive effective planning and measure impact for EDI
Identify organisational priorities and develop equity action plans (EAPs) to address them; priorities could be related to collections, audiences, workforce and/ or governance
Embed EDI and the EAP within the organisation’s overall strategy and Forward Plan
Identify challenges and/ or barriers within their organisation
Feel confident discussing EDI with colleagues and involving the wider workforce in planning
Know where they can seek further support and external funding, including how their plans relate to funder’s priorities and requirement
This activity sits within the Museum Development Midlands (MDM) Inclusivity and Relevance programme and supports Arts Council England’s Let’s Create strategy.
Job Requirements
MDM is seeking candidates with the following experience and expertise:
An excellent overall understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and inclusive practice
Knowledge of current good and emerging practice in relation to EDI and museum practice
Facilitating organisational change
Discretion, sensitivity, and the ability to treat discussions with the upmost confidentiality
Working with a range of organisation sizes and governance types
Delivering high quality online training
Mentoring experience
Delivering projects to time and budget
