The Department of French and Italian seeks to hire one (1) full-time, non-tenure track lecturer in the field of Italian language teaching and instructional technology.

Summary of Duties:

Appointment terms are up to three academic years beginning in Autumn 2023, with the possibility of renewals based on positive performance and department needs. A full-time (100%) appointment entails teaching four undergraduate courses per semester. This appointment will have a two-course reduction (one course per semester) for service responsibilities assisting the director of the Italian language program in curriculum development and course coordination.  Teaching duties will include primarily elementary level language courses. Other expectations include interacting with students during regular office hours; attending meetings when required; and contributing to a positive work environment. Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Italian, World Language Teaching, or related discipline;
  • native or near-native fluency in Italian and English;
  • record of excellence in teaching Italian language courses, especially at the college/university level;
  • strong understanding of instructional technology and current best practices in world language pedagogy;  
  • versatility to teach multiple levels, elementary through advanced;
  • ability to work collegially and effectively with both students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds as well as foster an inclusive classroom environment;
  • willingness to participate in professional development opportunities;
  • ability to teach either face-to-face or online, as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Italian with a focus in World Language Teaching or related discipline; or equivalent experience
  • experience in undergraduate language program coordination, teacher training, and/or intercultural learning
  • expertise with synchronous and asynchronous online tools for language teaching.
