We are seeking a Researcher for a 2-year-regular position (renewable) to work within the Epidemiology, Public Health, Impact / Real World Evidence Department at the International Vaccine Institute in Seoul, Korea. (Duty station: Seoul, Korea)

Job Description

The incumbent of this position is responsible for supporting effective and efficient implementation and execution of programmatic aspects of epidemiological/clinical research projects and assures that programs adhere to highest scientific and ethical standards.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Support conduct of epidemiological/clinical research projects

Provide scientific support to principal investigator/project team on study design, project resource management, and development of study protocols, forms, as well as standard operating and good clinical practice procedures
Provide scientific and technical support as program-specific focal point for selected study sites and selected activities for implementation and execution of activities liaising with IVI project team and the site collaborators
Work closely with local collaborators, doctors/health professionals to ensure that measures and consequences based on IVI’s work undertaken are according to international standards and contribute to the benefit of the patient
Assess national needs and possibilities to diagnose, treat and report/response to infectious diseases for providing assistance if related to project activities and strengthen the capacity of local health care staff including medical doctors and paramedical staff by training in the area of communicable disease diagnostics, treatment and surveillance
Ongoing verification of program-related and site-related documents, including protocols, informed consents, study forms, and scientific as well as financial reports, and visiting study sites to assess program progress, provide feedback and training, troubleshooting for scientific and technical issues, and assure capacity-building and compliance to project activities
Support PI in budget tracking, grant documentation, and financial reporting, supporting compliance with donor and institutional policies.

2. Scientific analyses of data

Support analysis and interpretation of generated project data and their implication for the national and international scientific community in developing recommendations for control and prevention of infectious diseases in developing countries
Support the development and publishing of research manuscripts
Keep up-to-date by reading specialist literature and interpreting results of data published by other working groups

3. Advocacy and planning

Provide support to principal investigator/project team to present results to respective audience and support health policy changes at various levels
Contribute to the planning and development of scientific agendas and presentations for workshops, training and international scientific meeting/conference
Attend project-related meetings/conferences for up to date information, as needed
Foster collaboration between IVI, UN agencies, NGO’s, companies and national ministries

4. Seek and support new funding opportunities

Help seek public and private funding to enable programs to become self-sustaining in the long term.
Support grant writing, as needed

5. Support Deputy Director General/Associate Director General

Support DDG/ADG EPIC with research management incl. budget and administrative activities
Support management of scientific meetings and conferences

Job Requirements and Qualifications

1. Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Medical-laboratory science, Public Health, Epidemiology)

2. Related Field Work Experience

4+ years

3. Technical and Professional Skills / Knowledge

Ability in working in different cultural environments
Intermediate/advanced computer and data analysis skills
Scientific writing and presentation skills for preparation of grant applications, report writing, development of research protocols and publication of results

Fluency in English
Basic knowledge in country-specific local languages is beneficial
