The infectious disease division has prioritized key areas, including TB diagnosis, enhanced detection of resistant and pediatric TB, genotyping, integrated TB services, and other initiatives utilizing innovative laboratory-based technologies.
The Laboratory Officer will report to the PI/Associate Scientist and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing quality laboratory diagnostic services with the objective of conducting high-quality laboratory testing and documentation within the guidelines of SOP/protocols and organizational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in the following activities:
- Perform laboratory tests and assays following approved SOP and keep legitimate records using approved forms and worksheets;
- Verify test results maintaining strict confidentiality to carry out laboratory services effectively;
- Verify equipment performance, generate data, and validate as per protocol, perform and document preventive maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment as per SOP and validate calibration;
- Identify equipment malfunction and report for immediate action, perform minor troubleshooting where appropriate for the operator;
- Adhere to and implement yearly equipment maintenance plan;
- Keep legitimate records of equipment maintenance in order to maintain optimum functionality and smooth operation of the laboratory equipment;
- Prepare, label, and distribute in-house laboratory reagents and chemicals adhering to recommended and in-house established procedures and SOPs and document in legitimate records;
- Maintain inventory of stock/non-stock laboratory reagents and consumables;
- Monitor and track consumption of resources and provide timely feedback to the supervisor or concerned team member to raise requisition;
- Prepare requisition for stock and non-stock lab supplies and keep updated records;
- Implement and adhere to ISO 15189 standards and requirements;
- Identify and report deviation from standard practices during laboratory operations and carry out corrective actions;
- Maintain all appropriate logs and forms of QMS;
- Identify the need for development and/or revision of SOP; and when assigned, develop new SOPs or revise existing ones as per guidance of supervisor;
- Ensure safe disposal of specimens, reagents, and chemicals addressing appropriate hazard levels;
- Practice and monitor the practice of bio-safety procedures in the lab to maintain compliance with ISO 15189 and 15190 standards and requirements.
Required qualifications and experience:
- MSc. in Biological Science with 3 years of experience in a diagnostic/research laboratory in the relevant field is required.
