POSITION: Adult Education Instructor – Jackson County; Commerce GA 30529
REPORTS TO: Dean of Adult Education
SALARY RANGE: Low to Mid $50’s depending on education, qualifications, and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, is responsible for classroom instruction and evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives.
Major Duties:
- Provides oversight of the ESL and ABE (including GED/HiSET prep) program at Jackson County.
- Ensures operations, including opening and closing the campus, follows established protocols and procedures.
- Spends at least 70% of time in direct student instruction.
- Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction, obtains or prepares instructional materials for classroom use, and insures that each student has a Student Education Plan (SEP);
- Provides learner guidance to students;
- Directs orientation for new students, and follows the Procedures for Underage Students;
- Evaluates students’ ongoing progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives;
- Accommodates students with special needs;
- Promotes the adult education program to public and private organizations through-out the Service Delivery Area (SDA);
- Participates in EAGLE competition;
- Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports;
- Participates in at least 24 hours (half from TCSG OAE) professional development annually;
- Follows all policies and procedures established by the TCSG Office of Adult Education;
- Maintains a secure and safe classroom environment;
- Participates in the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff;
- Recruits, supervises, and directs classroom volunteers;
- Coordinates the work schedule for staff, substitutes and volunteers;
- Assists with recruitment, retention, job placement, and transition efforts;
- Works with community agencies who partner with our mission;
- Participates in staff meetings and the Advisory Committee as requested;
- Manages the process of purchasing equipment and supplies according to budgetary limits and College policies and procedures;
- Analyzes collected data for program improvement;
- Other work-related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University.
COMPETENCIES:
- Skill in the use of computers and job-related software, including GALIS
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Skill in interpersonal relations
- Ability to adapt instructional material to fit all learning styles
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Knowledge of effective instructional methods for adult learners
- Knowledge of community needs within Service Delivery Area
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications & competencies):
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a related education field;
- Five (5) years or more of experience in adult education, including classroom instruction;
- Proficiency and competency in GALIS;
- Bilingual language skills
Physical Demands:
Will occasionally lift or move objects of a light to medium weight, up to 20 pounds. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
