The team is expanding, and we are looking for Lead Analysts to join us, as we continue to enhance the value derived from our data assets.

As a Lead Analyst, you will be joining a high performing Analytics team, working with some of the latest business intelligence (BI) technologies, playing a key role in innovative and high impact projects and will be supported to further enhance their skillset.  

This is a key role within the team, focused on delivering insight and analysis to senior partners across King’s. Collaborating with other analysts, BI developers and end users across King’s, you will use a range of techniques and tools across a variety of data sources to provide engaging and insightful reports and data visualisations across different domains including student, research, space, finance and workforce analytics.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract. 

This is a full-time post, but part time arrangements may be considered.

As the role holder, you will:

  • Deliver insight and analysis using a range of data sources and tools to support key decision-making processes, strategic planning, and performance monitoring.
  • Be confident in data wrangling, e.g., extracting, transforming, and combining data from a range of internal and external data sources.
  • Produce and maintain creative, user-friendly, and engaging outputs utilising a range of software, including the institution’s primary data visualisation tool, Power BI
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the reporting environment within the Higher Education sector and provide advice on the implications for internal business processes
  • Be a highly skilled user in one or more business intelligence and analysis tools, able to advise, teach and support other institutional users.
  • Advise and support colleagues across the University in assessing the validity and integrity of data on corporate systems
  • Continually develop technical expertise and skills in relation to new and existing software.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the University to promote awareness of and engagement with the business intelligence assets that exist and support them to apply the insights gained
  • Look to iterate, revise, refine and expand the reporting suite to meet the needs of a diverse user base and enhance the organisation’s data literacy and digital dexterity
  • Provide technical support to end users through various approaches including help desk support

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Essential criteria

  • Able to use one or more business intelligence/analysis tools and/or associated languages for example Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, SSRS, R, DAX, Python, M, Excel, VBA
  • Able to extract, transform and combine a range of different types of data from a range of sources
  • Able to deploy a range of techniques to analyse, interpret and problem solve using data
  • Able to translate complex technical requirements, in writing and via presentations for non-specialist audiences
  • Able to model and visualise data to convey the outcome of analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate the outcome of analysis verbally, in writing and via presentations
  • Experience with working with a range of different stakeholders
  • Ability to manage own workload and work with minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • A lifelong learner, open to new tasks, inquisitive and willing to challenge

  • Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of the Higher Education sector
  • Data Analytics or Business Analytics certification such as Microsoft Power Platform PL-300 or PL-900 certification or equivalent

    Interviews will be conducted remotely. You will be asked to complete a piece of analysis in advance of the interview and there will be a 10-minute presentation of your findings via Microsoft Teams at the start of the interview.
