Position Title: Lead Teacher, ESOLDivision: Learning &PerformanceReports To: Coordinator, ESOLFLSA Status: ExemptSalary Schedule: Teacher plus $1,000 supplementWork Days: 190
Essential Duties:
- Assist in the development, implementation, articulation, and support of the K-12 content curriculum to support the linguistic needs and successful language learning experience for English learners.
- Provide support to new ESOL teachers.
- Assist with WIDA Screener and ACCESS 2.0 (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English from State to State) testing as needed.
- Display “Best Practices” for serving ELs to ESOL, general, and special education teachers.
- Ensure ESOL teachers incorporate WIDA English Language Proficiency and Content standards into classroom practices and lesson planning.
- Visit classrooms to provide observational feedback and support to teachers.
- Coordinate and present relevant workshops and professional learning.
- Assist in completing Annual Self – Evaluation reports for Title III and /or Title III monitoring.
- Monitor departmental data and compliance elements.
- Assist ESOL teachers with interpretation of ACCESS scores and scheduling of classes.
- Assist in ensuring the ESOL department is in compliance with current ESOL and Title III guidelines as dictated by the State of Georgia DOE ESOL Resource Guide.
- Engage in discussions with teachers to encourage reflection on effectiveness of teaching strategies.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- Hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator Certificate in ESOL or an ESOL endorsement with appropriate content.
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience with experience as an ESOL teacher.
- Working knowledge and awareness of ESOL and Title III federal and state guidelines.
- Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
- Must abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
- Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
- Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
- Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communication are essential factors in performing required tasks.
