Overview

We are looking for a freelance, English-speaking Learning Designer (LD) to help adapt and extend our digital self-study content, making it fit for a new generation of learners in Latin America.

As an LD, you will be tasked with adapting and creating engaging, CEFR-level appropriate self-study content that leverages the power of Catalyst Editor, EF’s own authoring tool selected for this project.

Location: UK / Europe / North America / South America / Asia / Australasia.

This role requires you to work remotely from your own location, for which you will need reliable access to high-speed internet.

About the role

You will:

• contribute to project goals through digital self-study content and syllabus transformation.
• create compelling, engaging self-study content and activities, fit for teenagers in Latin America and appropriate for specific CEFR levels.
• author original carrier content such as level-appropriate audio/video scripts, texts, and scenarios, which links to specified learning outcomes and meets project guidelines.
• develop sequences of practice activities and scenarios that support specified learning objectives as well as devising summative tasks, scenarios and short assessments.
• take part in internal quality checking processes such as peer-review/constructive critiquing of other learning designers’ work at draft and final stages of production.
• attend and contribute to project-relevant meetings and trainings, as necessary.

This role is for an initial period of four months and a minimum availability of 30 hours per week, with anticipated start date of 1 November 2024. In return, you will be offered a competitive compensation package based on the work delivered with payment milestones set throughout the duration of the project.

About you

You will be:

• passionate about developing and delivering self-study, language learning content that is appropriate to specified target audiences and their future needs.
• familiar with the CEFR and its use in developing quality, level-appropriate content for younger learners and teens.
• driven to develop quality, publishable language learning content that meets project specifications and that is supplied within stipulated timeframes.
• fast at devising sequences of practice activities, tasks, scenarios, and short assessments relevant to intended learning outcomes.
• excited to work with cutting-edge authoring tools and content management systems.
• comfortable working digitally with a globally distributed team.

Additionally, you will have:

• Experience teaching English as a foreign language and, ideally, you will have developed your own teaching materials and/or self-study resources for learners of English as a foreign language.
• Demonstrable, pedagogical knowledge of English and experience of dealing with issues that learners of English from Portuguese and/or Spanish language backgrounds encounter.
• A mindset to recognize when to create brand-new content and when it’s better to adapt or leverage existing digital assets (e.g., audio/video) in creative yet relevant ways.
• Tertiary level qualifications in language teaching, applied linguistics and/or digital learning.
• C2 proficiency in English and A1 (or above) in Spanish/Portuguese.
