Other Conditions: For placement into the lecturer pool beginning Fall 2024. Subject to availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach courses in the assigned subject area;
  2. Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress;
  3. Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes;
  4. Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations;
  5. Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area;
  6. Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week).
  7. Classes may be offered online, evenings and/or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Functionally native fluency in ASL (ASL proficiency interview level 4 or 5), training/education in ASL teaching methodology (e.g. American Sign Instructors Guidance Network, or Signing Naturally Teachers Training) and one of the following:

  1. Master’s in ASL, ASL studies, literature, or linguistics; OR
  2. Master’s in Linguistics; OR
  3. Master’s in Teaching ASL; OR
  4. Master’s in Deaf Studies; OR
  5. Master’s in Signed Communication; OR
  6. Master’s in Deaf Education; OR
  7. Master’s in Education; OR
  8. Master’s in ESL; OR
  9. Master’s in Related field (Special Education, Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Instruction or Interpreting); OR
  10. Bachelor’s in ASL, ASL studies, literature or linguistics AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
  11. Bachelor’s in Linguistics AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
  12. Bachelor’s in Teaching ASL AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
  13. Bachelor’s in Deaf Studies AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
  14. Bachelor’s in Signed Communication AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
  15. Bachelor’s in Deaf Education AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
  16. Bachelor’s in Education AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
  17. Bachelor’s in ESL AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
  18. Bachelor’s in Related field (Special Education, Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Instruction, or Interpreting) AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Teaching experience related to the course(s) to be taught at the community college level.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.
  3. Work experience related to the course(s) to be taught.
  4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively.
  5. Familiarity with competency- and outcomes-based instruction.
  6. Experience mentoring undergraduate research projects in discipline.
