Part-time, non-tenure track, for placement in Spring, Summer and/or Fall lecturer pool, assignments as needed, contingent on availability of funds and actual staffing requirements for East Hawaii (Hilo), West Hawaii (Kailua-Kona), and/or North Hawaii (Honokaa) campuses. Must be able to attend meetings and trainings on short notice as well as teach courses in person, as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Under general supervision, conduct lecture and as appropriate, laboratory courses in the discipline.
  2. May include instructional assignment involving distance education.
  3. Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
  4. Possible evening, weekend and off-campus assignments.
  5. Conduct student evaluations of teaching effectiveness.
  6. Participate in assessment of course learning outcomes.
  7. Adhere to all due dates, including the online submission of grades.

Minimum Qualifications:

Functionally native oral and written fluency in Hawaiian, the ability to communicate in English, and one of the following:

  1. (a) Master’s in Hawaiian (language or literature);
  2. OR (b) Master’s in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Hawaiian;
  3. OR (c) Master’s in Linguistics, ESL, Education or another language and at least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, Hawaiian literature, Hawaiian culture, or any combination thereof;
  4. OR (d) Bachelor’s in Hawaiian (language or literature) and 3 years of related work experience;
  5. OR (e) Bachelor’s in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Hawaiian and 3 years of related work experience;
  6. OR (f) Bachelor’s in Linguistics, ESL, Education or another language, at least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, Hawaiian literature, Hawaiian culture, or any combination thereof, and 3 years of related work experience.

If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered.

  1. Willingness to work with Running Start and Early College programs and pass required additional screening as necessary.
  2. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting equity and a diverse workforce/academic environment.
  3. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
