Job Description

The Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Lecturer II/Teaching Assistant Professor in the area of Justice Management in support of the Master of Justice Management degree program. The successful applicant will have duties in the areas of teaching (primarily online although there will be opportunities for teaching in-person), service, and professional development. Examples of courses include Introduction to Justice Management, Methods of Program Evaluation, Judicial Process, Applied Ethics, Research Methods, Court Management, and Juvenile and Family Law. Other courses may be possible based on the desires of the successful candidate and the approval of the department. Standard teaching load for a Lecturer is 4 courses per semester, but that can be adjusted through the assumption of additional administrative duties.

Required Qualifications

• Lecturer II – Candidates must have an earned MA/MS degree in Criminal Justice, Justice Management, or a related field in hand by July 1, 2025.
• Teaching Assistant Professor – PhD in Criminal Justice, Justice Management, or a related field in hand by July 1, 2025.
• Demonstrated excellence, or clear evidence of potential for excellence, in the teaching of Justice Management and related topics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in Criminal Justice or a related field OR J.D. + MA/MS degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
• Experience in the teaching of Justice Management and related topics. 
• Five or more years of practical work experience in the justice system.
• Evidence of attention to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in teaching.

Department Information

The Department of Criminal Justice is part of the School of Social Research and Justice Studies in the College of Liberal Arts. The Criminal Justice curriculum is interdisciplinary, drawing on theories developed in a variety of fields. The diverse coursework offered allows Criminal Justice students to examine the actions of policing and law enforcement agencies, the judicial system and correctional agencies, and apply their actions to a variety of social problems. The Department of Criminal Justice welcomes a diverse student body and encourages its students to explore the full range of professional opportunities in Criminal Justice and justice-related professions and graduate programs. Through our three-fold mission of education, research and service, we build a community informed about the operations and challenges inherent in the field of Criminal Justice.
