Description

The Literature and Creative Writing program in the Department of English at Baylor University seeks two full-time lecturers to teach creative writing and/or upper-level literature classes, along with core curriculum classes, effective Fall 2025.

We are searching for collaborative faculty members with evidence of excellence in college-level teaching who are eager to serve the needs of our vibrant and growing program. The specific area of creative writing and/or literary expertise is open. We are particularly interested in prospective faculty specializing in creative nonfiction, playwriting/dramatic writing, or graphic novels with specialization in ethnic studies or literary editing and publishing. The Literature and Creative Writing program offers opportunities for all faculty, both lecturer-line and tenure-line, to develop and teach classes in their areas of specialization. 

This appointment is a renewable full-time, benefits-eligible, teaching-focused position with a 6-year promotion path to Senior Lecturer for successful candidates and a 12-year promotion path to Teaching Professor for highly successful candidates (see: Policy on Full-Time Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Teaching Professors at Baylor University).

Qualifications

PhD in English with a creative writing concentration, a PhD in English literature, an MFA in creative writing, or a terminal degree in a related field such as dramatic writing or theater at the time of appointment is preferred.

Demonstrated experience and success as a classroom instructor is preferred.

Essential Functions

Teaching may include core literature and writing courses and upper-level literature and/or creative writing courses. Core literature classes include American Literary Cultures, British Literature Survey, and World Literature Survey; the core writing class is Writing and Academic Inquiry. Candidates should demonstrate teaching excellence, expertise in creative writing and/or literature, and a willingness to serve the department, university, and profession. Experience teaching at the college level is desired.
