LECTURER – MASTERS OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
Department of Biology in the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia – Okanagan

The Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for the position of Lecturer in the Masters of Biotechnology Program. This is a 1-year full time Lecturer position with the possibility of reappointment. A lecturer is a faculty member holding a renewable term appointment. Lecturer appointments are expected to be renewed for successive terms upon demonstration of excellence in teaching in accordance with Section 2.02 of the UBC Faculty Association Collective Agreement. The position has an anticipated start date of February 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will be a member of the Department of Biology https://biology.ok.ubc.ca/ .

Candidates must have a PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field by the time of the appointment. We seek an individual with a demonstrated experience or ability to teach applied courses in molecular cloning, cell and tissue culture, and/or have a significant professional experience in a biotechnology laboratory environment. This is primarily a teaching position and also involves service duties. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to building a new professional Masters program in Biotechnology. The successful candidate is expected to develop and teach a range of graduate-level biotechnology courses, to train students in state-of-the-art laboratory techniques, and to support and mentor students undertaking professional internships in the Biotechnology sector as part of their program. Lecturers are expected to participate fully in the affairs of their department and may be assigned service obligations to the Department of Biology, the I.K. Barber Faculty of Science, and the University at the discretion of the Head of the Department.

The compensation rate for Lecturers within the Department of Biology ranges from $85,000 to $90,000 per year. Salary
is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is subject to budgetary approval.
