The College of Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) will establish and maintain a pool of Lecturers in the Department of Teaching and Learning from which future appointments of temporary, non-tenure track positions will be made. Appointments are part-time (less than 50% time) and will be made semester-by-semester. 

Qualified applicants will be placed in the department pool and will be considered for part-time departmental needs to teach courses for programs in the Department of Teaching and Learning. Classes primarily meet in-person, on-campus, but courses could also be offered hybrid or online. 

Job Duties:

  • Teach no more than 9 credit hours per semester. Topics areas to be taught may include: Schools, Society, and Diversity; Children’s Literature; Educational Psychology; Inclusive Education Foundations; Literacy, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics Methods and Content Courses; Child Development; Family Diversity; Early Childhood Center Administration; Child-Centered Inclusive Instruction; Assessment; Universal Design for Learning; Classroom Management; Health and PE for Elem Teachers; Arts Integration for Elem Teachers; Collaboration and Co-Teaching; Gifted and Talented Education; Special Education; Multisensory Education; Language Acquisition; English Second Language for Educators; Field Experience and Practicum
  • Follow posted syllabus and Canvas content
  • Effectively use Canvas, an online learning management system
  • Create highly engaging learning experiences related to course outcomes
  • Gather and assess evidence of student learning in accordance with course expectations
  • Use effective distance and online learning methods
  • Respond to student learning needs in a timely manner
  • Implement culturally responsive practices

A lecturer’s duties include: meeting assigned classes or delivering on-line content consistent with university, college/school, and department policies; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with department course coordination policies; being available, either face to face or electronically, to students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; and complying with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.

Who We Are:

Undergraduate programs in the Department of Teaching and Learning include the Bachelor of Arts in Inclusive Elementary Education, Bachelor of Arts in Inclusive Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Innovation in Inclusive Early Childhood Leadership. Licensure/certificate programs at the undergraduate level are offered in Special Education, Elementary Education, and Secondary Education.

Graduate programs in the Department of Teaching and Learning include the Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Master of Arts in Special Education, and Master of Science in Science Teaching. Licensure/certificate programs at the graduate level are offered in Alternative Licensure, Culturally Linguistically Diverse Education, Gifted and Talented PK-12, Inclusive Behavior Intervention, Inclusive Early Childhood Education, Teaching Mathematics, Instructional Technology (certificate only), and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) /TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certificate (certificate only).

The College of Education professional education programs are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), and the Colorado Commission of Higher Education (CCHE). The College of Education offers programs in professional education and teacher licensure in Inclusive Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education; Counseling; Educational Administration; and Student Affairs in Higher Education. Undergraduate, Master and PhD degrees are awarded by the College.

Work Location: Determined by course modality (i.e., on-site if teaching an in-person course; remote if teaching an online course; or a combination of the two if teaching a hybrid course).

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting up to $3,000 per 3-credit course. Courses with low enrollment (less than 12 students) are paid based on a pro-rated salary range.

Timeline:

  • This pool will be open from May 2024 through August 31, 2024 in preparation for the Fall 2024 semester.
  • This pool will be open from November 1, 2024 – January 17, 2025 in preparation for the Spring 2025 semester.
  • This pool will be open from March 1, 2025 – March 31, 2025 in preparation for the Summer 2025 semester.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education or closely related field
  • At least three years of professional experience in the specific course content area
  • At least three years of experience working directly with children in the classroom settings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree (e.g., PhD, JD)
  • Current engagement in professional development activities in the specific course content area

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move
  • Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, and fine motor skills
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
