About the role

Applications are invited for a Lecturer (teaching) position to enhance the teaching provision in our Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate degree programmes. Duties involve multiple aspects of the delivery and organisation of the department’s biomedical engineering, and potentially other, programmes, including classroom teaching, running laboratory sessions, supervision of practical work, planning, tutoring, and assessment. You will work closely with academics in the Department, and with appointed postgraduate teaching assistants (PGTAs). You will also contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and will assist in the development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.

  • This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
  • We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible.
  • The post holder must be available to be on site, full time, for in-person teaching, during term time. This role is eligible for hybrid working outside of UCL term time, with a minimum of 40% on site.

About you :

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) subject.

The applicant will have experience of teaching using problem-based learning and laboratory-based learning, and experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or Masters students.

They will be able to demonstrate basic/intermediate level knowledge of, and practical experience of using, at least two of the following:

  • CAD design & Finite element modelling; and/or
  • mechanical testing of materials; and/or
  • analogue and digital electronics and/or
  • Application of Mathematics to biomedical engineering

The applicant will have excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to analyse existing processes to improve efficiency. They will have interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail. The role will require the applicant to coordinate and deliver a new module, “Foundations in Biomedical Engineering”, teaching foundational skills for biomedical engineering, Contribute to the wider undergraduate teaching and assessment, particularly practical work in laboratories and ‘Scenarios’ (intensive 1-week group projects. They will also supervise student projects and serve as personal tutor to a group of undergraduates.
