About the Thomas Coram Research Unit

The Thomas Coram Research Unit (TCRU), where you will be based, has a long history and expertise in researching those children and families that are most vulnerable to economic and social adversity. Our work influences theoretical debates and public policies on: early childhood; children’s health, care and education services; children’s agency; young people’s identities; intersectionality; reproduction; motherhood and fatherhood; gender equality and fluidity; family diversity; poverty; parental leave; place-based inequalities; children’s language brokering; transnational families and practices; refugee and asylum issues; migration experiences; social pedagogy; work-family reconciliation.

About the role

You will contribute to the teaching in the department of our undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. In particular, you will lead and be responsible for the delivery of the following modules: Advanced Qualitative Methods (Taught postgraduate); Digital Sociology (undergraduate); Love, intimacy and sexuality (undergraduate). You will be also asked to lead seminars as required. We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in and ability to teach in one or more of the following areas: digital sociology, sociology of gender, sociology of families and work and advanced qualitative methods. You will be joining a vibrant and collegial research environment to which you will contribute. You will also contribute to the life and functioning of the unit, department, faculty and UCL more broadly.

Please note that there are two posts available both are available immediately and are funded in the first instance until either 22 September 2025 or 31 January 2026.

About you

You will have a PhD in Social Science, or a related area of study and experience in teaching, curriculum design and development at undergraduate level with relevant substantive subject expertise. Experience of producing high quality sociology publications is desirable. Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria. It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.
