LIMITED-TERM APPOINTMENT in Clinical Kinesiology

The School of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University promotes the benefits of physical activity to society by providing a multidisciplinary approach to discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge about human movement and related outcomes. The School of Kinesiology champions three research clusters focusing on Physical Activity and 1) Brain Health, 2) Mobility, and 3) Social Impact with strong links to Faculty Research Centres in Activity and Aging, and Health Equity and Social Inclusion.

We are seeking a Limited-Term appointment to teach courses and coordinate practicum within the Clinical Kinesiology module and related areas. The goal of these courses is for students to learn how kinesiology can be applied in clinical and non-clinical contexts. The courses delivered in this module include ethics/professionalism, entrepreneurship, clinical assessment, and exercise prescription. As well, the position requires the supervision of students in a year-long clinical placement opportunity.

Their teaching will demonstrate potential for meaningful engagement with, and be inclusive of, students from equity-deserving communities. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in relevant service to the School of Kinesiology, Faculty of Health Sciences, and the University, and have a demonstrated capacity to contribute substantively to an inclusive and diverse academic community.

The ideal candidate must have a Master’s degree (minimum requirement) in Kinesiology, or a closely related field, and demonstrated technical expertise and practical experience delivering exercise and movement science courses. Knowledge of exercise prescription and clinical assessment is required. Certification with national or international bodies (e.g., CSEP, ACSM, OKA, NSCA) and/or registration within the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have experience developing and teaching courses in traditional and flexible learning environments, managing projects, and coaching/leading others. The candidate will also be expected to develop and foster relationships with community organizations and participate in relevant service to the School of Kinesiology, Faculty of Health Sciences, and the University.

The effective date of the appointment is January 1, 2025, or as negotiated, for a three-year term (renewable). Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
