Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversation, near visual acuity/visual accommodation.Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid CertificatesJOB TITLE: Educational Assistant – High School – MediaJob Summary: The job of “Educational Assistant – High School – Media” is done to insure the smooth and efficient operation of the Library/Media Center and to help provide students and staff members with the best library/media services available. Responsibilities will vary, depending on student and staff needsEssential Job Functions:Assist students and staff with resources for research (both computerized and print)Maintain and be knowledgeable of Media Center equipment (computers, copy machine, printers, scanners)Working knowledge of current software/computer programs used the Media CenterAssist staff in scheduling classes and help locate resources for useAssist students with classroom assignmentsHelp organize and implement annual Media Center Freshman orientationAnnually inventory library materials and complete end-of-year final inventory reportsMaintain equipment maintenanceOrganize student aides and helpersMonitor students and take disciplinary action when neededSupervise circulation deskTrain and supervise student aides and parent volunteersMaintain automated circulation systemShelve and file materialsRepair library materialsMaintain Media Center utilization statisticsProcess materials for use in the Library/Audio Visual centerAssist with Library supply orders and inventoryMaintain overdue records and prepare fine/overdue noticesProcess and distribute required patron and item reportsMaintain bulletin boards, display cases and book displays, assist with library promotionsAssists with the transportation needs of students, including walking them to and from the bus, supervision of tudents on the way to and from the bus, supervision of loading and unloading of busses, arranging for the transportation needs of studentsPrompt and regular attendanceEssential Job Requirement – Qualifications:Experience Required: Prior job related experience, paid or volunteer, with school-age children.Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skill to perform basic clerical functions, basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. Knowledge of principles of child development, instructional processes. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity. Knowledge of Dewey Decimal system and automated library systems helpful.Education Required: Highly Qualified Status pursuant to Federal No Child Left Behind guidelines.Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Fingerprinting and Criminal History Check, and current First Aid card.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Cross-trains in a variety of school functions and assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Confer with teachers and administrators for the purpose of assisting in evaluations of students’ progress and/or implementing of students’ objectives
  • Participates in various meetings to share information and/or improving skills/knowledge
  • Assists with the transportation needs of students, including supervision of students to and from the bus, supervision of loading and unloading of busses, and arranging for the transportation needs of students
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor within the scope of their job

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Ability to:

  • o sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time

o talk and hear conversations in a potentially noisy environment
o use precise control of fingers and hand movement, often in a repetitive motion such as keyboarding
o reach for and handle objects
o use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus * Bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds may also be required on occasionWORKPLACE EXPECTATIONS * Maintaining regular and punctual attendance. In case of an absence, the site and/or district protocol for reporting absences is followed.
