Medical Advisor/ Senior Medical Advisor (Rare Disease)

AstraZeneca is accelerating the expansion of our geographical footprint in rare diseases following the acquisition of Alexion in 2021. Rare disease is a high-growth therapy area with rapid innovation and significant unmet medical need. Over 7,000 rare diseases are known today –yet less than 1% of them have an approved treatment. As we begin to build our position as a Rare Disease leader, we seek a Rare Disease Medical Advisor to join our Medical Affairs team in Hong Kong.

What you’ll do

As a Medical Advisor/Senior Medical Advisor (Rare Disease), you’ll play a pivotal role in channelling our scientific capabilities to bring an important new therapy in a rare disease setting into clinical practice, making a positive impact on patients’ lives.

The Medical Advisor is a professional with scientific, clinical and therapeutic area expertise responsible for providing medical and scientific support to healthcare professionals aligned to the use of medicines in our combined rare disease portfolio. You will report into the Medical Head. Your job responsibilities will be, but not limited to:

• Provides external (health care professionals) and internal (Sales, Marketing, Medical, Market Access, Regulatory etc.) customers with state-of-the art, balanced, scientific information on rare disease products, their competitors and related disease area
• Provides strategic scientific advice and support for local marketing decisions and commercial brand strategy
• Helps optimise the product commercialisation through effective cross-functional working leading to the generation of timely and relevant, added value outputs
• Interact in the field with the medical community in the context of various medical projects such as clinical trials, Non Interventional Studies (NISs), Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISSs), health outcomes research, scientific exchange meetings
• Contributes promotional standards and medical information expertise in the generation of promotional material/claims and advises the product team on all aspects of promotional activity acceptability
• Works in partnership with the Market Access and Regulatory Team, providing medical information and promotional standards expertise and input to high level documentation
• Demonstrate business ethics and ensure active respect of values, business ethics, local laws, policies and Marketing procedures. Ensure all activities and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with the high standards of ethics and integrity required by the Code of Conduct, supporting Policies and Standards and Company Values to protect and enhance long term performance and reputation
• Other duties within position’s scope, as assigned by Line Manager

Essential for the role

• University graduate in science or related discipline
• 2-3 years experience of Medical Affairs/Medical Liaison function in the pharmaceutical industry
• Ability to seek and critically assess information, put it into context and evaluate its impact on the business
• Competent in Adverse Drug Reaction reporting in compliance with local regulations
• Possess a high ethical standard and knowledge of the HKAPI Code of Practices
• Knowledge of good clinical practice
• Sound computer skills on Microsoft Office
• Excellent in both written and spoken English and Chinese, conversable Mandarin is an advantage
• Excellent analytical, presentation and communication skills

Desirable for the role

• Experience in Rare Disease, Haematology, Nephrology and Pediatrics.
• Possess PhD/MD/PharmD, or master degree in related discipline;
• Hong Kong Registered Pharmacist License
• Depending on candidate experience, this position may be filled at the following levels: Medical Advisor/ Senior Medical Advisor
