MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Location: Saint Francis LIFE Riverfront, Wilmington, DE

Position Purpose:
The Medical Director provides general medical direction and supervision of the medical aspects of participant care. The Medical Director is responsible for the delivery of participant care, clinical outcomes, and oversight of the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program. The Medical Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of medical policies and procedures/standards and protocols. The Medical Director provides direction and supervision to related Primary Care Providers (PCPs). The Medical Director provides leadership and guidance to the program colleagues and providers in the local community.

Participates in provider on-call rotation as required.
What you will do:
- Participate as an active member of PACE Organization interdisciplinary team. Educates and advises the team regarding the implications of diagnoses, cognitive and physical function and treatment options.
- Participate in team and family conferences and decision-making processes.
- Interview and evaluate applicants to PACE Organization and their caregivers and participate in the Intake and Assessment decision.
- Conduct history and physical on new participants and event-based and periodic reassessments. Develop medical treatment plan and provide medically necessary services in the range of locations in which participants may reside.
- Assure that participants receive preventive health maintenance.
- Discuss each participant’s medical conditions and prognosis with him/her and their caregiver to assist them in expressing their wishes and planning their future care.
- Examine and treat participants with episodic problems. Manage participants’ emergency medical situations. Use evidence-based medicine, knowledge of geriatrics, and knowledge of the participant’s wishes in selecting the most appropriate treatment in the most appropriate setting.
- Supervise the health care and treatment program as developed by the interdisciplinary team.
- Collaborate in the nursing treatment program of participants.
- Coordinate and/or participate in the 24-hour on-call system to assure continuity of care for PACE Organization participants.
- Coordinate the management of participants’ care in acute inpatient hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and other inpatient settings, in accordance with best geriatric practice and participant’s wishes.
- Promote conservation of resources, and prudently manages utilization of services.
- Enforce full optimization of the EMR by the Primary Care Team and reinforce appropriate practices related to clinical records.
- Ensure culturally sensitive advance care planning discussions occur between physicians and Participants occur and are appropriately documented.
- Actively participate in PACE Organization Medical Director meetings for purposes of shared learning and best practice development opportunities.
- Ensure Participants receive adequate and appropriate pharmacy services.
- Collaborate with consultant pharmacists to ensure that physicians receive clinically pertinent consultations and that providers respond appropriately to recommendations.
- Responsible for oversight of the quality assurance performance improvement (QAPI) program along with the QAPI Coordinator. Attend QAPI committee and Board meetings as scheduled.
- Consult with physician advisor or attending physician at hospital, as appropriate, to ensure appropriate billing status.
- Collaborate with PACE Organization staff when a hospital or SNF appeal a payment decision.
- Participate in the Participants’ complaint and grievance procedures when the complaint or grievance involves medical care.
- Work with and support the coding team in ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and active plenary physician license to practice in state of PACE Organization required. CDS Certification and DEA Registration required. Current BLS required.
- Board Certification Internal Medicine or Family Practice required. Board Certification in Geriatrics preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year working with the frail or elderly population required.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and have means of transportation
- Must be action-oriented, have business acumen, manage conflict well, be customer focused, have high decision quality, flexibility to adapt to ongoing change and have organizational agility. Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment.
- Possess interpersonal skills to drive collaboration, commitment and productivity when working with cross[1]functional teams, customers and end users. Must be comfortable functioning in a virtual, collaborative shared leadership environment.
- Demonstrates superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills appropriate for audience comprehension. Well-developed communication skills, both written and oral, that may be used either in an on-site or virtual environment is required. Able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups representing diverse perspectives.
- Comprehensive to expert proficiency with Microsoft product suite (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.); basic knowledge and experience with electronic mail and calendaring system. Knowledge of systems necessary, experience preferred. Ability to type with speed and accuracy. Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Possesses a high degree of personal accountability, responsibility and independent decision making abilities with the skills to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the organization in line with mission, vision, and philosophy of TH PACE.
- Ability to change and be flexible with work priorities. Strong problem solving skills.
- Ability to research, analyze and assimilate information from various on-site or virtual sources based on technical and experience based knowledge. Must exhibit critical thinking skills and possess the ability to prioritize workload.
- Position requires periodic travel within the Centers geographic region.
