Job Duties
Hiram W. Davis Medical Center is one of 12 inpatient facilities operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a 94-bed medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long-term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.
Hiram W. Davis Medical Center is actively seeking a full-time Physician II. This position will provide medical services to the individuals entrusted to the care and services at Hiram W. Davis Medical Center while complying with TJC and CMS regulations. The position will perform daily assessments of in-house patients’ general condition by examination, evaluation of laboratory results, x-rays and EKGs/EEGs to determine patients’ status and response to treatment. The Medical Physician will possess the willingness and a positive attitude in admitting patients from other DBHDS facilities and ID/DD communities that could no longer provide medical care for the patient. Evaluate patients for admission by taking histories and performing physical examination. The Physician will write general medical orders based on their medical surgical, dental, and substance abuse detoxification condition. The role will also make daily rounds with Chief of Staff and treatment team members throughout the skilled, medical surgical and intermediate care wards to be able to provide input into patient’s condition progress and treatment strategy.
Minimum Qualifications
~ Graduation from an accredited Medical School;
~ license to practice medicine in Virginia;
~ Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice or Emergency Medicine
~ broad medical knowledge and ability to practice medicine with acutely and chronically ill patient population;
~ ability to provide training/supervision of medical students.
Additional Considerations
~ Considerable experience in clinical and treatment coupled with familiarity in administering and supervising medical affairs desirable
~ Bilingual a plus.
