Merit launched the Michigan Moonshot initiative in 2018 as a statewide call to action to address the digital divide for Michigan communities. We are seeking someone to provide coordination support for the Moonshot initiative and our related Technology Impact Research.

The Michigan Moonshot Project Coordinator will report to the Michigan Moonshot Program Manager. In this role, you will coordinate and support the implementation of the Michigan Moonshot program as well as providing administrative and project management support for the Technology Impact Research Department. You will interact with local stakeholders and coordinate efforts to solve the digital divide as well as supporting research measuring the impact of technology changes.

You should have excellent emotional intelligence and communication skills and should be able to build strong relationships with a wide range of people. You should also be organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at once.
This position is based in our Ann Arbor, MI location. This role will require occasional travel within Michigan, so you should be comfortable being on the road and should be able to work independently.

  • Coordinate the Michigan Moonshot program
  • Build relationships with local stakeholders and community leaders (E)
  • Facilitate meetings of local stakeholders within the provided framework (E) 
  • Participate in and support community engagement projects (E)
  • Participate in development and implementation of strategies to solve the digital divide(E)
  • Produce formal project outputs, including reports, presentations and materials for public consumption (E)
  • Monitor and document project status, identify and escalate issues ensuring timely completion of assigned follow-up tasks (E)
  • Pursue understanding of related federal and state policy
  • Communicate Moonshot and Technology Impact Research activities out to larger organization and other stakeholders (E)
  • Track project budget and coordinate client invoicing (E)
  • Coordinate timelines and budget with other internal service departments
  • Coordinate logistics for educational events, data collection and research efforts (E)
  • Document and streamline current processes
  • Collaborate with other Merit staff and consultants
  • Provide administrative and logistical support, information gathering and document preparation to Moonshot teams and Technology Impact Research Department (E)
  • Various duties as assigned
     
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in the digital equity market space
  • Experience participating in or facilitating community digital equity workgroups
  • Knowledge of digital equity issues, methods and best practices 
  • High energy and a love for being around people
  • Excellent emotional intelligence
  • Ability to organize and share detailed information
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation communications skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Google suite preferred
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team and across the organization.
     
  • Undergraduate coursework in Business, Communications/Marketing, or Public Policy
  • 2+ years of experience in digital equity-related community outreach project/program management 
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated project management experience with projects spanning multiple organizations, geographies, and objectives
  • Experience working or volunteering with community organizations or local governments
  • Familiarity with broadband technologies and computer networking. 
  • Working knowledge of digital equity and digital inclusion
  • Knowledge of Qualtrics, Jira or NetSuite
     

Physical Demands:

Employee must frequently work at computer station, answer telephone calls, emails, and/or other forms of customer/client communication.
 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, term-limited position. This is a term-limited position for a duration of approximately 2 years from the date of hire; dependent upon the availability of work and funding.
The work schedule will be determined by the supervisor and may change if necessary.  This is a hybrid position: some days you will be required in the office and most days your work location will be flexible.

Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment.
Typical work schedule is 8am – 5pm, Monday through Friday for most staff.


Travel:

This position is based in Ann Arbor, MI. Occasional travel within Michigan is required.
