3.5 year full time PhD fully funded studentship covering Home fees and stipend starting January/April 2025

We seek to recruit a highly motivated PhD researcher with technical ability to conduct research in the area of modelling and optimisation of integrated multi energy systems, including electricity, heat and hydrogen/gas. The candidate will contribute to an on-going research project that concerns the optimal expansion and operation of electricity, heat and gas/hydrogen in the Great Britain to investigate timely investments in the energy infrastructure to achieve the Net Zero target whilst maintaining the security of supply. This is a collaborative research project with several universities and industry partners in the UK.

An ideal candidate would be a resourceful team-player with an appetite for working with the industry.

Research Environment

The successful candidate will become a member of Centre for Integrated Renewable Energy Generation and Supply (CIREGS) at the School of Engineering. CIREGS consists of 11 academic staffs, 20 postdoctoral researchers and 30 PhD researchers. The centre’s researchers are playing leading roles in several flagship national and international research projects.

Academic Criteria

Candidates should hold or expect to gain a first-class degree or a good 2.1 (or equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or a related subject. 

Desirable skills: Computer programming (preferably in Python), Optimisation, Planning and operation of integrated energy systems (i.e. electricity, heat, gas/hydrogen).

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent)
