Moments of Power: Performance of Energy Systems in Real-World Conditions (Ref: AACME-24-026)

Loughborough University

nearmejobs.eu

Moments of Power is a method for analysing energy systems under real-world usage conditions. It combines polynomial quasi-steady state models of the system with moments of key statistical variables describing the usage, to determine losses and efficiencies at the system level without requiring detailed simulations.

The project aims to apply this methodology to transport systems such as passenger vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, and public transport, including the electricity infrastructure used to power electric vehicles.

The goal is to identify the best vehicles, the best system, or the best component for a typical usage case, and to optimise the design and control of the system/component. Ultimately, this analysis will make a key contribution to the question of how to deal with the volatility of renewable generation on our path to a sustainable net zero future.
