Job Summary

Leeds Youth Opera is looking to appoint a permanent part-time Music Director/pianist to work with the company commencing with singing and drama workshops in late September 2023 until Christmas followed by rehearsals for a production in July 2024 of Children of Eden.

Job Description

The range of duties are:

  • Conduct/accompany choral rehearsals
  • Plan for the overall musical development of the group in consultation with the Artistic Director and Trustees
  • Assist in the recruitment of young singers predominantly from Leeds
  • Be responsible for the setting up of the room so that the group can start rehearsing promptly, and for making sure that the room is left tidy after the rehearsal
  • Ensure that rehearsals take place in a manner which does not endanger pupils or staff, (this includes arrivals and departures of pupils)
  • Assist the group with musical fundraising events
  • Take care of equipment used mainly by the group and ensure that any borrowed equipment is returned to the correct place
  • Agree auditioning procedures with trustees where appropriate for new company members and musicians and carry out auditions as arranged with Artistic Director
  • Control regular and prompt attendance of group members at rehearsals
  • Recruit, and audition players and plan and conduct rehearsals of an orchestra, where appropriate, for productions with Leeds Youth Opera from other youth amateur and professional players from Leeds
  • Assist in publicising LYO and the shows to encourage new members and an audience

Workshops and rehearsals are every Saturday in term time from 2.30p.m. to 5 p.m. with associated preparation time, up to two evening concerts, up to two show weeks and a possible week long Summer School.

Fixed fee approx. Hourly rate £20
