We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated person to join our research team, BonLab (https://bonlab.info), at the University of Warwick as a PhD researcher to work on a fully funded (home fees + stipend) 4-year project in the area of sustainable polymer and colloid science. The project is co-funded by industry.
SUPERVISOR: You will be working under the guidance of prof.dr.ir. Stefan A. F. Bon (https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/staff/stefanbon) on an exciting 4-year project in close collaboration with industry.
Environmental sustainability sits at the heart of our chemical engineering approach to innovate in polymer and colloid science.
PROJECT DETAILS:
This project deals with the synthesis of polymer colloids that contain pigments for inkjet printing. The idea is that pigment encapsulation will simplify ink formulation and improve performance. We will look at sustainable polymerization methods to fabricate pigment dispersions suitable for various printing techniques. We will look at innovative fabrication methods and study the formulation processes of colloidal inks. We will characterize the physical and mechanical properties of the materials made and test the newly formulated inks on commercial printers. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with our industrial partner.
REQUIREMENTS:
The eligible candidate must hold, or be predicted to obtain, at least a 2.1 4-year degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent scientific discipline. Exceptional students with a 3-year BSc degree will also be considered. This studentship is open to UK nationals and those of equivalent status* (fees paid, plus annum stipend). Availability is for 4 years.
*Please note – ELIGIBILITY – Applicants from overseas ARE eligible for this post, but need to find financial means to bridge the gap between home and overseas study fees.
