Norwich Science Festival is looking for freelance Explainers to support with the delivery of immersive and interactive workshops for children aged 5-11 during February half term 2025.

About the role

New for 2025, Norwich Science Festival is excited to introduce immersive and theatrical science workshops for children aged 5-11. Attendees will step on to a themed set and take part in a workshop lasting 45 minutes, featuring a range of hands-on science activities for them to enjoy! The workshops will run five times per day between the 18-22 February 2025 at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form.

Harvest Heroes will explore how healthy soil can help farmers, Light up the Town will see children build their own electrical circuits, and Making Rainbows will explore the wonder of light and colour!
In addition, WonderTots will enable younger children aged 2-4 to experience the wonder of science with play, dressing up and hands-on activities.

Training sessions:
Sat 8 February 2025, 9am-5pm with 1 hour break
Mon 17 February 2025, 9am-5pm with 1 hour break

Delivery dates:
Tue 18 – Sat 22 February 2025, 9am-5pm with 1 hour break

Pay:

£110 a day. Please note training sessions are paid.

Location:

The Forum and Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form, Norwich.

Support:

The workshops have been devised by science communicators Amanda Hartley and Dr Lucy Catto, who will be on hand throughout the week of the Festival, to support with delivery, customer enquiries and any challenges that arise. You will also work closely with and be supported by the Norwich Science Festival Events Team, who will run the workshop venue from an operational standpoint.

Job Requirements

You will be an outgoing, friendly individual who is keen to run activities for children.
Confident speaking in front of a group, you don’t necessarily need a science background.
You will be willing to learn from clear instruction and the two lead-facilitators on how to deliver the workshop.
Enthusiasm for and willingness to learn how to deliver workshops with instruction and a script.
Available to attend both training sessions dated above. Please note all training dates are mandatory.
Available to work Tue 18 Feb – Sat 22 Feb 2025 (9am-5pm).
Have proof of the right to work in the UK.
