Job Title: Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Orthopedic Surgery

Inpatient/Outpatient: 100% inpatient 

Case Load: 98% Adult, some young adult with ortho-trauma.

Position Overview:

Join our exceptional team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and attending physicians at Henry Ford St. John Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for a contingent, inpatient-only orthopedic surgery position. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with exposure to a wide range of orthopedic cases. You will be responsible for inpatient rounding, postoperative care, alongside a great team of APPs and attending physicians. The position consists of 10-hour shifts, providing ample opportunity for both professional growth and hands-on experience in a leading trauma center.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of orthopedic experience. Strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care are essential. Please note that new graduates will not be considered for this position. Provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services under the supervision of a physician. Responsibilities: Obtains patient history and performs assessment. Verified by local Credentialing Office. – Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Verified by local Credentialing Office. – Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. Education: – Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program required. – Master’s degree preferred. Work Experience: – 1 year of experience preferred. #APP

Qualifications:

• NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
• PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
• NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan
• PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Licensure and Certification

• Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
• National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.

Experience

• At least 1 year APP experience, ortho preferred.
• EPIC Experience, preferred.

Skills

• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
• Commitment to patient-centered are and continuous professional development.
