To primarily support the D&A nutrition team in collating data and undertaking data analysis for the upcoming 2026 Flagship Child Nutrition Report (CNR) and support the finalization of different advocacy products for 2025 CNR. The 2025 report is delayed and now scheduled to be released in September 2025. As a result, data and analysis will need to be updated to ensure that UNICEF’S flagship nutrition report features the most up to data for countries worldwide. At the same time, the team needs to conceptualize and undertake analysis for the 2026 report which is scheduled to be released in August 2026. The 2026 edition of the CNR is focused on exclusive breastfeeding, a global nutrition target and the incumbent will support the team in identification and collation of relevant data sources, undertaking data quality reviews, validation of estimates. Additionally, this position will also support the team with undertaking country consultations for the nutrition sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators especially the newly accepted SDG on diets

Scope of Work:

Identify, collate relevant nutrition data sources– The nutrition team currently maintains an internal catalogue of several types of data sources including household surveys, surveillance and administrative systems. The incumbent will actively search for new data sources, liaise with country and regional offices to identify relevant sources and update the nutrition catalogue.

Support data analysis for global databases– The incumbent will be required to develop code or use existing code developed by the team to generate estimates from household surveys for several nutrition indicators especially those related to infant and young child feeding practices. Further, support review of new data sources against a set of data review criteria for inclusion in nutrition global databases.

Support country consultation for nutrition SDG indicators – The incumbent will support the D&A nutrition team in preparing relevant documentation and undertaking country consultations for nutrition SDG indicators especially minimum dietary diversity.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in statistics, nutrition, or public health

Knowledge Expertise/Skills required :

  • A minimum 2 years analysing nutrition indicators using household survey data. Experience analysing diet data is an asset.
  • Experience analysing data from large-scale household surveys like MICS and DHS is preferred.
  • Experience with STATA, R or any other statistical software and Microsoft Office is required.
  • Fluency in a UN language especially Arabic is an asset.

Requirements:

Completed profile in UNICEF’s e-Recruitment system and:

  • Upload copy of academic credentials
  • Financial proposal that will include/ reflect :
  • the costs per each deliverable and the total lump-sum for the whole assignment (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference.
  • travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
  • Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.

  • Any emergent unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
