Apply Rossier School of EducationFacultyLos Angeles, California
The University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education invites applicants for an on-campus, open rank faculty position in Marriage and Family Therapy in the Master’s degree programs: https://rossier.usc.edu/programs/masters/. The anticipated start date is June-July 2025.
The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups. We teach our students to value and respect the cultural context of the communities in which they work and to interrogate the systems of power that shape policies and practices. Through innovative thinking and research, we strive to solve the most intractable educational problems.
The position is an instructional, non-tenure track, on-campus faculty appointment with a 12-month renewable contract. Non-tenure track, on-campus faculty in the Rossier School typically have a profile of 80% teaching (24 academic units) and a 20% service expectation including some combination of, but not limited to, curriculum development (for both our current on ground MFT program and our online MFT program starting in July 2025), course oversight, recruitment and admissions activities, and participation on school and university committees.
Rossier’s MFT program prepares students to address mental health concerns facing communities, families, couples, adults and children. The program’s mission focuses on social justice and anti-oppressive practice, preparing students to work in public mental health while addressing barriers to care for underserved communities. Students completing the program are eligible for the state of California’s Marriage and Family Therapy license. The program is currently in the process of expansion to offer an online version of the program that will start in July 2025. Rossier is also excited to launch an EdD program in Mental Health Leadership, a doctoral program to prepare mental health practitioners and scholars for leadership positions to aid in the sustainability and effectiveness of the mental health workforce.
While outstanding candidates at all ranks from all areas of mental health services will be considered, candidates with teaching and scholastic interests in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: mental health leadership theory and practice at various organizational and community levels; experience in community mental health settings; Asian American and AAPI+ mental health; couples and relationship therapy; teletherapy and telemental health; family therapy; dialectical behavior therapy (DBT); substance abuse treatment. In addition to stellar early career candidates in these areas, our department, as part of its growth strategy, is keenly interested in strong, dynamic mid-career candidates with interests in building up the department’s profile in these areas.
Successful applicants must:
(1) Have either a completed doctorate from an accredited institution in a mental health field or have a doctorate alongside a license to deliver mental health services in the state of California at the time of application review;
(2) Maintain a clinical license as an LMFT, LPCC, LCSW, or a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of California;
(3) Demonstrate success of at least two years of previous teaching at the graduate level.
Applicants must provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and three names for references. The cover letter should include specific examples of applicant’s commitment to equity and improving opportunity and outcomes for historically underserved groups. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
The annual base salary range for this position is $100,000-$120,000 for Assistant Professors, $120,000-$150,000 for Associate Professors, and $150,000-$190,000 for Full Professors. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
USC is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law or USC policy.
USC will consider for employment all qualified applicants with criminal records in a manner consistent with applicable laws and regulations, including the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance for employers and the Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, and with due consideration for patient and student safety. Please refer to the Background Screening Policy Appendix D for specific employment screen implications for the position for which you are applying. Applicants should include a letter of interest (no more than two pages), curriculum vitae, two representative publications, and contact information for three references. We will conduct screening interviews via zoom, solicit reference letters for finalists, and conduct on-campus interviews.
Successful applicants must: (1) Have either a completed doctorate from an accredited institution in a mental health field or have a doctorate alongside a license to deliver mental health services in the state of California at the time of application review; (2) Maintain a clinical license as an LMFT, LPCC, LCSW, or a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of California; (3) Demonstrate success of at least two years of previous teaching at the graduate level.
