Your Specific Responsibilities:

• Prepares patient, sterilizes, and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures
• Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients
• Records treatment information in patient records
• Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies
• Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays
• Performs rubber cup prophylaxis, places dental sealants
• Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of dental equipment, instruments and supplies, basic dental terminology
• Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments
• Ability to maintain accurate records and maintain effective working relationships with others
• Technical dental assisting skills; organizational and planning skills; self-direction and self-motivation; and human relations skills
• Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, and sit or stand for long periods of time
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed

Qualifications:

Minimum-

• Graduate of a dental assistant program approved by the Florida Board of Dentistry or accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental accreditation
• Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters,or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disasteror threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

Preferred –

• CPR Certification
• Florida Dental Radiology Certification
• Three or more years as a dental assistant
